Library Sale... AKA: I DON'T Have A Problem!

So, yesterday, after breakfast, The Boy spotted a library sale. And then told me about it, which was his first mistake. He then had to wander around after me, bored, for not nearly as long as I would have liked, but out of consideration for him I cut it short to just an hour.

It was $3/bag day. I got all of the above books in that bag. I would have gotten more, obviously, but almost all of the paperbacks were romances or Dean Koontz, or... Ones I already owned. *cough cough*

Here's my haul:

The Thief of Always by Clive Barker
An ARC edition of Vurt by Jeff Noon (on of The Boy's favorites! Imagine that- he CAN read!)
As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner
*A Van Vogt Omnibus, containing Planets for Sale, The Beast, and The Book of Ptath
Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak
The Sweet In-Between by Sheri Reynolds
Beware of the Dog by E.X. Ferrars
The Gravedigger's Daughter by Joyce Carol Oates
Sapphira and the Slave Girl by Willa Cather
Other Voices, Other Rooms by Truman Capote
Tinkers by Paul Harding

* I picked this up purely on a whim. I never heard of any of these stories, but it looked well read, and I always think that I should read more science fiction, and for about $.14, you can't beat the price. ;)

These Is My Words by Nancy E. Turner
The Rainy Season by James P. Blaylock
The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin
Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin
Dixie City Jam by James Lee Burke
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexandr Solzhenitsyn
The Crisis by Winston Churchill
The Ghost Stories of Edith Wharton by Edith Wharton
After the First Death by Lawrence Block
Ordinary Heroes by Scott Turow

Obviously, a lot of these books are ones that I wouldn't have likely ever read, or even heard of, otherwise. But getting 21 books for the price of a half off mass market paperback is a good incentive!

After leaving the sale, we ran a few more errands, and stopped at one of my favorite discount stores, where I bought... yeah, more books. (I SAID I don't have a problem!)
I picked up The Illustrated Sherlock Holmes, which contains 37 short stories and a full novel. I also got The Haunting of Granite Falls by Eva Ibbotson, because a friend loves her, and I've never read anything of hers. And finally, an apparent steampunk book about Jack the Ripper called "Ripper" by Stefan Petrucha... because why not?

... Now I just have to find a way to fit them onto my shelves. O_o

Booksies!

I'm not sure if anyone's noticed, but I've been having a bit of trouble finishing books lately. Or, I will finish them, but it's either:

A) Ridiculously short - lookin' at you, WeGiveBooks books & free Tor novellas...
or
B) Ridiculously slow - lookin' now at you, every other book...

So apparently, my logic is, "If you can't read 'em, buy 'em!"

I've pre-ordered and/or otherwise acquired these signed editions*:

NOS4A2 by Joe Hill
Double Feature by Owen King
The Ocean At The End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft by Joe Hill
Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill
We're All In This Together by Owen King

Special thanks to Kathy for getting Locke & Key, Heart-Shaped Box, and We're All In This Together signed for me! :D

In addition to the above awesomeness, I bought some other books:

G.I. Joe: Hearts & Minds by Max Brooks
Roses by Leila Meacham
One-Act Plays by George A. Goldstone
Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynne Truss
Psycho by Robert Bloch
The Descent by Jeff Long

*No author legs were humped in the acquisition of these titles... But not for lack of trying... *sigh* ;)

Reading Plan May 7th & New Booksies

Two part post today... Because I'm efficient like that. ;)

Part 1: The Reading Plan - Week of May 7th

Goal: Read 3 books a week to total 160 books in 2012.

So I angrily quit reading Ghost Story. It had taken me almost an entire month to read less than 300 pages (which was about half the book). It makes me mad when books are boring! >:(
I am still struggling to get my 3 books in per week, and I'm starting to fall behind on my goal. I really just need to read more and fiddle around on the internet less. LOL

Here's what I read since the last post:
  • Ghost Story (Did Not Finish)
  • Summer Knight
I'm currently working on:
  • Roadwork (Audio - and I'm not really feeling the reader, so this is also taking FOREVER)
  • Kitty and the Midnight Hour
Coming up:

The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson
The Alloy of Law (Mistborn #4) by Brandon Sanderson
Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn
The Rook by Daniel O'Malley
Death Masks by Jim Butcher

What is on the agenda for your reading list this week?

Part 2: New Book Acquisitions

Two books purchased...

The Gathering by Anne Enright
Blinded by Stephen White

...And two books received from friends. I'm a lucky girl! :)

He Is Legend: Anthology Celebrating Richard Matheson
(Gifted to me by Chris.)
People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks
(Gifted to me by Ala)

Thrift Store Score 3

In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren.

I don't usually do many IMM posts. But today I'm doing one, because I'm kind of excited about the books I've acquired this week.

I did two book buying splurges this weekend... one at the thrift store around the corner from my house... (Seriously... DANGER ZONE.), and one at a local bargain store that is, thankfully, across town.

Here's what I got.

Thrift store (Used books):

Robert Bloch's Psychos (A collection of horror stories)
Shadowland by Peter Straub (Sorry for the craptacular pic of that one!)
Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm by Kate Douglas Wiggin
P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern (OMG, even the first page made me cry!!)
A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle

Bargain Store (New Books):

Dust City by Robert Paul Wilson
Endgame by Nancy Garden
The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl by Barry Lyga

And finally...
The Talisman Graphic Novel, Vol. 1: The Road of Trials
OMG. I paid $3.99 for this. It's PERFECT. ♥♥♥

Excuse me while I squee all over the place!  SQUEE! :D

The Talisman is one of my all time favorite books, and I've been wanting to read this graphic novel for ages... but budgets being tight, I can't justify buying at full price. $3.99 I can manage though! O_O

All of the books in this week's IMM post cost me less than $20 combined. Super awesome haul this week.

SQUEEE!!!!

Thrift Store Score 2

Today I found a book that I have been trying to find for ages... The original 1978 version of The Stand by Stephen King!

It's not in pristine condition, but for being older than I am, it's in pretty good shape! I've wanted this book for a LONG time, so I can read it and compare to the revised edition, which I love. It's been really hard to find a copy without taking a huge risk on condition ("good" and "acceptable" mean very different things to some people, I've noticed!), so this is like Christmas has come again for me. :D

So here's everything I got:

Yeah, so... kinda random, 3 horror books and a feminist short story collection, but there ya go! :P

Thrift Store Scores

New books I've gotten recently at my local thrift stores. I really love the cover on Water Marked, and I'm looking really forward to Audrey's Door!

What did you pick up recently?

In My Mailbox (12)

Hidey ho there all! I don't have very much to report for this IMM, since I'm trying desperately to NOT buy any new books so I can save up for my move. But here are the books I've taken out from the library since my last IMM post. (Sorry no actual pictures this time.)

Cold Sassy Tree - by Olive Ann Burns / Read for Historical Fictionistas Group Read

American Vampire Vol. I by Stephen King and Scott Snyder / Read just because it's freaking awesome.

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner / Read because The Maze Runner was awesome and I had to know what happened. Is it October yet???

And finally, I'm currently reading (and loving) A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.

In My Mailbox (11)

As always, IMM is hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren!

Soooooooo... I haven't been getting very many physical books lately... Nook is taking over my life!

*sighs blissfully*

Oh sorry... I was having a moment. I'm done now. So, ahem... as I was saying. I haven't been getting a lot of dead-tree books, but I have been getting a ton of ebooks, which is quickly becoming an addiction. I should probably rename my IMM posts to like "IMeM" for In My e-Mailbox, LOL. Although I don't technically get ebooks in my email anymore than I got them in my mailbox either, mostly. Ahh, whatever. I digress. LOL

Here's my recent acquisitions... No pics this week - technical difficulties. Blah. I'll link some images though. :)

For Review -
1) Rotters by Daniel Kraus
2) This Vacant Paradise by Victoria Patterson
3) Kat, Incorrigible by Stephanie Burgis

Rotters This Vacant Paradise: A Novel Kat, Incorrigible (Kat, Incorrigible, #1)

Bought -
1) The Tapestry Shop by Joyce Elson Moore (This is being discussed as our first Featured Author read with an author Q&A in my Historical Fictionistas group on Goodreads!)
2) The Crowning Glory of Calla Lily Ponder by Rebecca Wells

The Tapestry Shop The Crowning Glory of Calla Lily Ponder

Ebooks -
1) To Say Nothing of the Dog & Doomsday Book by Connie Willis
2) The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi
3) Odd and the Frost Giants by Neil Gaiman
4) Feed by Mira Grant
5) The Discworld series 1-37
6) Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
7) Misc. classics and ebook duplicates of DTBs I already own. :)

Sorry... I'm got no piccies for these! I'd rather spend my time reading them than linking images for them! LOL

Until next week(ish)! Adios... But come back and tell me what you got in your mailbox too!

In My Mailbox (10)

In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren.

Wow... It's been about a month since my last IMM post, and I've missed sharing my book acquisitions with everyone. So without further delay, here are my goodies! :D

You might remember late last year, the awesome people over at The Broke and the Bookish blog did a Secret Santa swap. This is what I got:
The Maze Runner by James Dashner
A whole buncha bookmarks  - some signed! Squee!

Here's what I received from a Secret Santa swap we did in one of my Goodreads Groups. I'm excited for both of these books:

Halfway To The Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Crusade (Crusade #1) by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie (Received ARC from Star Book Tours)

I actually received this one a while ago from my boss, but I plan on reading it soon and figured that I'd mention it. I hope it's awesome. :)
Little Bee by Chris Cleave.

Before I move on to the rest of my IMM post, I just thought I would share a little bit of the difficulties I face in getting decent pictures to share with you all. Bloopers, if you will. Uncooperative extras?

I'm talking about stuff like this:

And this:

But it's worth it... Silly cats! :P

OK, let's get back to business!
You all know that I got a Nook for Christmas (well, pre-Christmas), right?... Well... I have a problem. By problem, I mean addiction.
